Freelander 1 Tyre Pressure

It is always important to regularly check the tyre pressure on your Freelander as it can make a big difference to the fuel efficiency, drive and safety of your vehicle.

If your tyres are not running on the correct tyre pressure this can incur long term damage to them and they will need to be replaced more often.

Tyres that are over inflated will result in the tyre making contact with a smaller area on the road. This can cause loss of traction and longer braking distances. It will also cause irregular tyre wear.

On the other hand, tyres that are underinflated will cause increased rolling resistance which will mean that fuel consumption will increase along with CO2 emissions.

There will also be increased tyre wear on the inner and outer walls of the tyres, which again will mean that they also need to be replaced more regularly.

Tyres can lose an average of 2psi per month giving even more reason to check them as often as possible. This loss also increases as the external temperature rises, so tyres need to be checked more frequently in the summer than in the winter.

Tyre pressure ideally should always be checked when the tyres are cold, so it is worth investing in a piece of equipment to check them at home without the need to move your car at all.

If you don’t have anything to check the pressure of your tyres with at home, you could test them a local petrol station of tyre station that is less than 2 miles away from you. If you drive there at a low speed then the tyres will not have had a chance to heat up.

The required tyre pressure for your Freelander can be found on your V5 logbook or on the driver’s side door sill.
